Shank is the resident misfit of Brook and Banner. He is not ordained, though he has been banned from more presbyteries than most pastors have attended. Shank is best known for quoting Leviticus at the wrong time –e.g., during a wedding toast:

“And the man who lies with his wife during her uncleanness….” (dead silence). He once opened a women’s small group with: “Technically, this should be called a silent retreat” — before preaching a 45-minute sermon on “Wives, submit to your husbands.” Ecumenically, he hasn’t fared better. Once asked to close in prayer at a Baptist breakfast, he prayed, “Lord, forgive these Baptists for withholding Your promises from their children.” At a youth Q&A, he explained paedobaptism with, “Because your pastor doesn’t love covenant theology and probably says Westminister instead of Westminster.” He is armed with a WCF beanie, a crook for “theological use only,” and a scroll filled with unfiled grievances.
